Three reasons why Leeds were wrong to sack Christiansen

|

Christiansen was let down by his players

In their last five games, Leeds have had four players sent off. Firstly, it was star man Samu Saiz, who was sent off for spitting at an opponent during their FA Cup loss to Newport County. Secondly, it was Eunan O’Kane, who saw red for a headbutt during a 1-0 loss to Ipswich. Then, it was captain Liam Cooper, given his marching orders for a reckless challenge as the Whites fell to a 4-3 loss to Millwall. And last weekend, it was Gaetano Berardi, who was shown two yellows in the first half in the heavy loss to Cardiff. Responsibility for these incidents comes down to one group: the players. Christiansen cannot be blamed for his players making stupid decisions in heated moments, and yet he is the one who has paid the ultimate price. The dismissals eventually left him with a razor-thin squad to work with, one which was missing several key players. A team chasing promotion needs as much help as it can get, and there is not much that any manager could have done with this current squad which is missing so many individuals.
