Leeds United need to bring in a top quality striker to spearhead their promotion bid in the second half of the season and should turn their attain to Derby County ace Chris Martin.

Whites boss Thomas Christiansen has revealed that he would like to bring a centre-forward to Elland Road still during the January transfer window.

The Yorkshire giants have failed to replace Chris Wood since his summer departure and need a clinical finisher in attack if they are to get back in the Premier League.

They should go all out to try sign in-demand Derby striker Chris Martin, who has all the quality to be a major success and could be the difference.

Derby manager Gary Rowett has confirmed that there has already been interested in the 29-year-old during the January window, but no “firm offer” for him.

Rowett also explained that he would sit down with the Scotland international to discuss his future if a serious offer was received, but would be completely happy to keep him in his squad as it stands.

Martin has struggled for game time so far this season and has mainly been used as a substitute, meaning he has just one goal to his name this term.

However, Leeds fans should not be fooled by this as the powerful target man has a stunning goalscoring record at Championship level and just needs a run of regular starts.

The Scotman scored 55 Championship goals in three seasons for Derby between 2012-16, which is an indication of how clinical he can be.

Leeds have all the foundations of a promotion winning side with a solid backline and combative midfield.

They are just one proven goalscorer away from getting over the line and making a January swoop for Martin would be a brilliant move.
