Leeds United could reportedly lose goalkeeper Andy Lonergan in the final few days of the January transfer window and should consider a swoop for Newcastle United ace Freddie Woodman as his replacement.

Sunderland fan website Roker Report, which is a reliable source of news around the club, has reported that Whites shot-stopper Lonergan has agreed an 18-month contract with the Black Cats.

News outlet Football Insider had previously claimed that talks had opened between Championship rivals Leeds and Sunderland over a transfer for the 34-year-old.

The speculation appears to have eased up recently, but Thomas Christiansen’s side need to consider bring in a replacement if Lonergan does seal a switch to the Stadium of Light.

Felix Wiedwald is currently the first-choice option at Elland Road in goal, but would competition for the second half of the season.

The Scottish Sun reports that Aberdeen are lining up a move for highly-rated goalkeeper Freddie Woodman at Newcastle United and that a loan exit is on the cards for the youngster.

Leeds should seriously be considering a loan swoop for the 20-year-old and hijacking Aberdeen’s interest.

The England Under-20 international would be an excellent replacement for Lonergan and is being tipped for big things.

He helped the young Lions win the Under-20 World Cup in the summer and needs a short-term loan to help his development.

Woodman is a young goalkeeper desperate to make a name for himself and potentially playing a part in Leeds’ promotion push in the second half of the year would help his credentials.

There have been huge question marks over Wiedwald’s ability during his brief time at Elland Road and his suitability to the English game, but the upcoming Newcastle star has the makings of a top goalkeeper.
