Leeds United are eyeing up a last-ditch swoop for Forest Green Rovers winger Jordan Stevens, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Wednesday [09:34am] that the Whites are aiming to seal a six-figure deal worth £250,000 for Stevens, 17, as director of football Victor Orta continues to strengthen the Under-23s side.

Football Insider had previously reported that Leeds were in talks with Forest Green over a late deal to sign Stevens ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Stevens is said to be highly-rated by a host of Championship sides but it seems that United are powering ahead to get his signature.

The Mail reports that Stevens is a winger, but for most of this season, the Forest Green teen has played in the centre of midfield.

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds have piled money into improving their youth sides ever since Orta was appointed as director of football by Andrea Radrizzani. A lot of the players that they have got have been from overseas so it is a good move to finally sign up a young English player. Stevens is very versatile and can play in a number of different positions in midfield. £250,000 is a small amount to spend but some fans may be miffed that more money has not been spend on first-team players this month.

Likely to happen?

The Whites appear to be getting closer to signing up Stevens but they do not have long to go. With him being a young player, it will not be the end of the world if they don’t get a deal in time for 11pm and they could delay the move until the summer so he can continue getting first-team experience at Forest Green. It will be interesting to see how this deal plays out throughout the day.
