Leeds United defender Luke Ayling completed 90 minutes in Friday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa – and the club’s supporters on Twitter ripped into him for his performance.
United secured a point against one of the Championship’s strongest teams as they moved up to seventh in the league table.
Pontus Jansson opened the scoring in the first half with an emphatic header from Pablo Hernandez’s perfectly placed corner as the home side dominated the opening period at Elland Road.
But Villa came back strong after the break and substitute Henri Lansbury levelled the scores midway through the second period with a driven shot from the edge of the box.
Ayling maintained his ever-present record in the league this season with his 20th appearance.
But Leeds fans on social media were highly critical of some of the right-back’s play, highlighting his distribution, tackling, awareness and decision-making.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Ayling is one of the worst defenders in our history. So is Cooper. Whilst they play we will go nowhere. Fact.

Is it just me or is Luke Ayling no longer the player he used to be?
Lost a yard of pace, not got his usual sharpness and is constantly making poor decisions
Luckily for him we have limited options in that department #LUFC #MOT #ALAW #RecallCoyle— Leeds Realist (@LeedsRealist) December 1, 2017
Thought Saiz was off the pace today so so so right footed at times; ekuban can’t fault his effort n mixing it; Vieira and Pontus great; ayling liability at times; Phillips seems ineffective Felix ok got away with a flap #lufc

Fair result in my mind. First half ours and the second was theirs. Still a few nervy moments but I think we looked more like the team from the start of the season.
Ayling still looking shaky which is baffling. #lufc #avfc

Some of the lads on the ball were so sloppy. Ayling, Phillips, Pontus a bit, Roofe – caught often on their heels, or messy touches generally. All of them looked like they could have their pockets picked and Ayling had a few bizarre misguided lunges too. #LUFC

Poor by Ayling tonight and nothing went for Saiz tonight either. Didn’t create much once Hernandez went off. Would of taken a point beforehand #lufc #2pointslost #mot

How many times has Ayling gone to ground and failed to get the ball this game? #lufc

Ayling needs dropping. Simply not good enough lately. #LUFC
