Leeds United are prepared to submit a stunning offer £5.2million (€6m) for Real Betis central midfielder Andrés Guardado, according to GOL Digital.

The Spanish publication claim that the Championship promotion hopefuls are prepared make a formal move for the Mexico international, 31, after his outstanding form this season.

GOL Digital report Leeds’ imminent offer may be enough to persuade La Liga outfit Real Betis to cash in on the central midfielder even though they only signed him from PSV Eindhoven in July.

It is said that Guardado has caught the attention of many clubs across Europe with a series of dazzling performances that have stunned the Spanish league.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes, definitely. Guardado has pedigree, experience and is in outstanding form for a side placed eighth in La Liga. The Mexican has supplied a remarkable six assists from 13 league fixtures this season, a tally second only to Celta Vigo’s Pione Sisto. Guardado may be over 30 and would have limited sell-on value, but he would add some stardust to a Leeds midfield which has a number of honest triers, but no-one in the calibre of the 144-times international.

Likely to happen?

Given that Leeds managed to beat a host of Spanish clubs to the summer signing of in-demand playmaker Samuel Saiz after his brilliant campaign for Huesca, don’t rule it out, even though January deals of such magnitude are rare. A bid of £5.2million is huge by the standards of Leeds, who have not forked out more than £3million for a player since the capture of Robbie Fowler at the turn of the century. Leeds clearly regard the Spanish league as ripe for plucking top talent, and have showed there is great value there.
