Everton fans react to Sammy Lee appointment

|

Everton fans have gone into meltdown on Twitter after the club confirmed the appointment of Sammy Lee as one of Sam Allardyce’s assistant coaches.

Lee has a long history with rival club Liverpool, spending 10 years of his player career with the Reds before returning as coach under Rafa Benitez.

It was speculated that Lee would be part of Allardyce’s coaching staff, with the two previously working together at Bolton Wanderers, England and Crystal Palace.

Allardyce was appointed as Everton manager after a long search for Ronald Koeman’s replacement, who was sacked on the 23rd of October after a 5-2 home loss to Arsenal.

The board spent five weeks looking for the right man to take on the job, and the hunt seemed to take countless twists and turns, encapsulating Diego Simeone, Marco Silva, Ralf Rangnick and Paulo Fonseca to name a few.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright finally settled on Allardyce, who was actually an early contender for the job, on Wednesday.

The club have now confirmed the news on their official website, with former Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare and club legend Duncan Ferguson rounding off the team, and fans have been quick to voice their outrage at the appointment.
