Neil Redfearn has heaped praise on Leeds United ace Samuel Saiz in the aftermath of the defeat to Derby and labelled him a “golden egg”.

The Whites suffered a 2-1 home loss against the Rams on Tuesday night and it was their fifth league defeat in the past six games.

Thomas Christiansen’s side are now in desperate need of a result against Brentford before the international break and have slipped to sixth in the league table.

Leeds did open the scoring in the first-half through Pierre-Michel Lasogga, before Sam Winnall scored a break in the second period to secure the points.

Saiz played an integral role in Lasogga’s goal as his perfectly weighted pass assisted the striker to rifle in a shot inside the penalty area.

The Spanish attacking midfielder has become a firm favourite at Elland Road since his summer arrival and is earning rave reviews.

Redfearn raved about the playmaker after the Derby defeat and feels that he has free licence to not show the defensive side of his game.

“Samu Saiz has great ability, he is the one golden egg out of all this,” Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire.

“And I think you can perhaps allow for the fact that he doesn’t do the other side (defensively) as well.”

OPINION

Saiz has made a colossal impact in English football so far and based on his current form looks destined to end up in the Premier League. The attacking midfielder is so lethal in the final third and usually plays in the number 10 role behind the striker. He doesn’t need to track back as much to help the team defensively as he is the only player regularly making an impact offensively. Saiz showed his class with a brilliant assist for Lasogga against Derby and the duo are slowly forming a good understanding. Saiz now has eight goals and three assists in 15 games for Leeds and needs some of his teammates to find their top form to aid a promotion hunt.
