Neil Redfearn has backed Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen despite him coming under increasing pressure for his side’s poor run of results.

The Whites made a sensational start to the Championship season and were top of the league in September, but have suffered a major drop off recently.

They lost six of their last seven league games going into the international break and have slipped to 10th in the standings.

The Yorkshire giants now host Middlesbrough on Sunday as domestic football resumes and former manager Garry Monk will be the opponents dugout.

Redfearn has shown his support for Christiansen and feels that overall it has still been a successful start to his managerial stint at Elland Road.

The 44-year-old took charge in the summer and made a dream start in the opening weeks duing his first spell in England, but questions are now beginning to be raised after a mini crisis.

“To be fair to Thomas Christiansen, to say this is his first stint in English football, I think he has acquitted himself really well,” Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire.

“If you look at the beginning of the season and what has happened moving forward, you’re always two or three bad results away from going on a bad run, it’s just the nature of the division.”

OPINION

Leeds desperately need to turn things around and the added incentive of facing Monk at the weekend should see them beat a strong Boro team. The Whites need to ensure they make the most of their home advantage and certainly have enough match winners to earn a much-needed three points. Christiansen will come under severe pressure if his team continue to slip down the table and can’t afford to fall too far behind the play-off spots. The manager has shown he can set his team up to be defensively strong and there is a feeling he has gone back to basics to organise his team during the international break.
