Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has revealed that he has become a lot more physical since working under Mauricio Pochettino and explained the importance of gym work.

The 27-year-old right-back has become a key first teamer for Spurs recently and thrived since Kyle Walker’s departure in the summer.

He has already made a sensational seven assists in 12 games across all competitions and is currently ahead of teammate Serge Aurier in the pecking order.

Trippier arrived at the North London club in 2015 from Burnley and has developed into an England international since.

The full-back has explained that Spurs boss Pochettino tends to put a lot of focus on work in the gym and that he has benefited to become a powerhouse defender.

“I’ve really developed since I came here under the manager,” Trippier told Sky Sports.

“Physically, he’s got my body into shape and listening to him tactically on the field, in defending and attacking, I’ve improved.

“The training here is really difficult, especially with all the gym we do. The manager makes sure we’re all prepared for the game, no matter who we’re playing, and our mindset is to go into the game with high intensity.”

Spurs have become a real force in England under Pochettino and just missed out on the Premier League title in the past two consecutive seasons.

They are once again set to challenge for the league crown and they do have a very powerful team.

Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld are just some of the big physical presences in the side that help dominate opponents.

Trippier has improved tenfold under the guidance of Argentinian tactician and is become a real force on the right flank. The attack-minded defender is given a licence to influence the game in the final third in a wing-back position and is one of Spurs’ best creative threats. He has struck up a great partnership with centre-forward Kane and his inch-perfect crossing has assisted him on several occasions. Trippier’s attacking edge makes him one of the most dangerous defenders in the Premier League right now and he will hope to continue his impressive form to ensure he is involved in England’s World Cup in Russia next summer.
