Eddie Gray has expressed his anger over Leeds United’s defensive positioning during the 2-1 home defeat to Derby on Tuesday night.

The Whites continued their poor run of form as they fell to sixth in the Championship table and have now lost their last three games at Elland Road.

Thomas Christiansen’s side were in front in the first-half through Pierre-Michel Lasogga as the striker rifled in a shot from inside the penalty area.

However, Sam Winnall scored a second-half brace for Derby and the decider was from the penalty spot.

Gray has slammed Leeds for the manner of Derby’s opening goal and believe they switched off to allow the visitors back into the game.

Derby’s left-back Craig Forsyth burst into huge space on the wing as the Whites defence was left stretched, before Winnall converted his pin-point cross.

“When the left-back made the break (for the first goal) we were sleeping, they shouldn’t get in behind us like that,” Gray told LUTV.

OPINION

Leeds quickly need to amend their home form if they are to stay in the mix for promotion and need to try make Elland Road a fortress. They lost their three home matches in the league against Derby, Sheffield United and Reading. Christiansen will know they need to fix that problem quickly and his side’s defensive frailties is a big concern. Leeds right-back Luke Ayling was caught out of position for the goal that infuriated Gray and the manager needs to go back to basics with his defence.
