Eddie Gray has claimed that Leeds United trio Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi and Kalvin Phillips should be recalled to the side on Saturday against Brentford.

The Whites travel Griffin Park at the weekend for a Championship encounter and the visitors will be looking to end their poor run of form.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have lost five of their last six league games and that has seen them drop out of the play-of positions as a result.

The Yorkshire giants lost 2-1 at home to Derby on Tuesday night and the manager could be tempted to make some changes.

Leeds were without defender Berardi and midfielder Phillips against Derby due to suspensions, but they are both available against Brentford.

Meanwhile, centre-back and captain Cooper missed the Derby clash with injury, but could be fit enough to return as he is included in the Scotland squad for the upcoming international break.

Gary has claimed that the first-team trio should all return to the side for the trip to Brentford.

“Well I think the the three of them do. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. They’ve got to start,” Gray told LUTV when asked if Cooper, Berardi and Phillips should be recalled.

OPINION

Christiansen clearly needs to field his best XI away to Brentford and is in desperate need of a win before the international break. The Whites have looked shaky in defence recently and will need to be resilient to keep an in-form Brentford in check. Cooper should bring some composure to the back-line and he should resume his partnership with Pontus Jansson. Meanwhile, the left-back position has become a problem at Elland Road thiss eason, but Berardi will be keen to make amends as he returns from a three-game suspension. Phillips has been one of the outstanding Leeds players this season and he simply must be involved in the starting XI. He has become a threat in the final third with five goals already this season and the central midfielder will always put a shift in.
