Ekuban: I will try to play like Yeboah

Leeds United forward Caleb Ekuban has claimed he will try to play in a similar way to the club’s icon Tony Yeboah.

The 23-year-old moved to Elland Road in the summer and has been frustrated by injury so far.

However, he made his comeback off the bench at the weekend in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough and is now hoping to kick on.

Ekuban has explained that he feels he is now ready to take the next step in his career and said he will try to replicate the heroics of Yeboah.

Yeboah is regarded as an icon by the Whites faithful after becoming a huge favourite during a two-year spell with the Yorkshire club in the mid-90s.

The former Leeds striker was a powerful figure that lit up Elland Road and is remembered fondly for his wonder striker against Liverpool

“I thought this was the season to achieve something better in my career,” Ekuban said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I heard about Leeds from my dad because he talked about Tony Yeboah. He said you need to play like him! I said it’s not that easy but I will try!”

Ekuban is still a fairly unknown talent to the Leeds fans due to his injury, but is now coming back into contention for Thomas Christiansen’s side. The Ghanian forward has brilliant pace and could offer something different to alternative option Pierre-Michel Lasogga. He scored 18 goals across all competitions last season for Albanian top-flight club FK Partizani and is now hoping to replicate that form in England. Ekuban may have to be patient over the coming weeks after Kemar Roofe’s impressive display in attack against Boro, but his chance will surely during a hectic schedule.
