Caleb Ekuban has revealed at a media briefing on Tuesday that his fellow Leeds United forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga will be sidelined for a number of weeks through injury.

Fit-again Ghanian Ekuban said, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay, that Leeds’ first choice centre-forward is set to be out for “a couple of weeks” as he prepares to miss Wednesday night’s Championship showdown against Wolves at Molineux.

Lasogga, who is United’s leading scorer with five goals from 10 league matches this season, missed the win against Middlesbrough on Sunday with what the club claimed was illness.

Ekuban’s claim suggests that the on-loan German striker is suffering from a new complaint that had not previously been disclosed.

OPINION

Lasogga has been Leeds’ undisputed spearhead since completing a loan move from Hamburg at the end of August. He has started all 10 of his league matches and has only been absent twice in the league since his arrival, through illness at the weekend against Boro and when he was rested against Cardiff City in late September. Christiansen hinted that he was not entirely happy with the German’s performances when he hauled him off at half-time against Brentford before the international break, but he is still the senior of Leeds’ five main striker options, who also include fit-again Ekuban, rookie duo Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki, and the versatile Kemar Roofe. Christiansen could now look to start Roofe up front against Wolves for the second consecutive match after he made a big impact against Boro on Sunday.
