Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to call for Stuart Dallas to be reinstated in their starting XI after what they claimed was his performance for Northern Ireland in their World Cup qualifier against Switzerland on Sunday night.

The Elland Road winger shook off a foot injury sustained in the first leg in Belfast to take his place in Michael O’Neill’s side but could not stop them drawing 0-0 and sliding to 1-0 aggregate defeat in the play-off that eliminated his country from the competition.

Many Leeds supporters watched the Northern Ireland match and were struck by the impact made by Dallas, 26, who has spent most of the season on the sidelines for his club.

The left winger has started just two Championship matches of a possible 16 as he has found himself behind Samuel Saiz, Pablo Hernandez, Ezgjan Alioski and Kemar Roofe in the pecking order for attacking midfield places.

A section of the Elland Road faithful are now calling for manager Thomas Christiansen to accommodate Dallas in his starting XI for Sunday’s pivotal Championship clash against Middlesbrough as Leeds aim to end a horror run of seven defeats from nine league matches.
