Leeds United want to stick by under-fire manager Thomas Christiansen after a wretched run of results continued with Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Brentford, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported on Saturday night that the “message from Leeds all week” is that they want to stick with the Dane even though “some clubs and owners” would be tempted to dismiss him.

Christiansen has overseen a damaging run of seven defeats from eight matches in all competitions that has seen his team slip from first to 10th in the Championship table and just four points above 17th place.

Questions are beginning to be asked of Christiansen and there were some knee-jerk reactions from disappointed supporters in the immediate wake of the defeat at Griffin Park.

Radrizzani showed his full support on social media for Christiansen and the Leeds staff on Tuesday night but was silent in the immediate wake of the setback at Brentford.

OPINION

Were Massimo Cellino still at the helm, Christiansen would already be collecting his P45. Thankfully, the erratic Italian is a thing of the past and he has been replaced by a countryman who is sensible, visionary and does not do knee-jerk reactions. Radrizzani has been at pains to stress that he is building a long-term project, handing four and five-year contracts to nearly all the first-team players, and backing his coaching staff to the hilt. His strategy is laudable in an industry renowned for its short-termism. But the coaching staff and players are letting the owner down. Their performances have been horrible for too long, and the sense is that something has to give very soon.
