Thomas Christiansen has placed a striker top of his Leeds United January shopping list, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The print edition of the newspaper (12 November) claim that the under-pressure Leeds boss wants Liverpool’s Danny Ings or Manchester United’s James Wilson on loan.

It is said that Christiansen regards a forward signing as a priority even though United signed four front men in the summer window, three of them on permanent deals.

Ings, 25, has played just 17 minutes of senior action for Liverpool in 12 months as he continues to recover from the second of two serious knee operations.

Wilson, 21, has also had fitness problems and was the subject of intense interest in the summer only to remain at Old Trafford.

He is yet to turn out for the senior side under Jose Mourinho after rupturing his cruciate ligament while on loan at Derby County in 2016-17, but has scored two goals in six appearances for the Under-23s this season.

OPINION

Wilson would be an excellent loan signing for Leeds and would pep up a front line that has struggled to dismantle the Championship best defences this season. United’s main man has been Pierre-Michel Lasogga but even his best friends would not describe him as a mobile striker. By contrast, that is the forte of Wilson, who is super quick, has excellent movement and is a clinical finisher. 2016-17 was a write-off for the Man United academy product but he has showed impressive signs for the development squad in recent weeks as he works his way back to full fitness. Don’t forget that Wilson also has four United senior goals to his name, from just 20 appearances, so his pedigree his evident.
