Noel Whelan revealed his delighted with Leeds United’s performance in the win over Bristol City and gave a special mention to midfielder Ronaldo Vieira.

The Whites recorded an impressive 3-0 away win at Ashton Gate and ended a run of three consecutive defeats in the Championship.

Thomas Christiansen’s side returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory and it saw them climb up to fifth in the league table.

Samuel Saiz scored a first-half brace to put the visitors in control, while Pierre-Michel Lasogga added a third with a second-half header to make sure of the points.

The Yorkshire giants will be thrilled to get back on track and now turn their attention to a League Cup clash away at Premier League opposition Leicester.

Whelan took to social media to praise Leeds’ display against Bristol City and hailed Vieira as “awesome”.

“So proud of our performance today under such pressure away from home to deliver in such a way was immense. Passion honest and skilled,” Whelan wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Vieira was promoted to the starting XI by the manager and seized his chance with a dominant display in the centre of the park.

The 19-year-old midfielder helped Leeds boss the game and it was his first start in the Championship of the season.

He has been on the fringes of the Whites squad for most of the campaign, but could now be set for an extended run in the side.

OPINION

Leeds’ mini blip came to an end in the best possible way at the weekend and not many people expected them to dominate a good Bristol City side. They managed to recreate the form that was there at the beginning of the campaign as their high intensity proved too much to handle. The Yorkshire giants will not be able to keep such high levels throughout a 46-game campaign, but if they can go through winning spells it could see them over the line for at least a play-off spot. Saiz was the star man once again for Leeds and it appears that they have unearthed a gem.
