Tottenham scouts have stepped up their interest in Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that Spurs have increased their bid to land the 20-year-old this week.

It is understood that the North London club were keen on the left-back in the summer and have re-visited a potential deal by sending scouts to watch him in action in the Champions League.

The report details that Spurs representatives were in attendance on Wednesday during Celtic’s 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich to watch the defender.

Tierney acquitted himself well against some of the best attacker in the business and Spurs are preparing for life without Danny Rose, with the future of the left-back unclear as Manchester United circle.

The Celtic star is built in the same attacking mould as Rose as he has made 95 senior appearances for the Scottish giants and picked up 23 assists in return.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs will clearly need to find a replacement for Rose if he leaves and bringing in a talented youngster to challenge Ben Davies for the left-back could be a smart way to go.

Tierney has been very impressive since he broke into Celtic’s senior team and has established himself as a key man under Brendan Rodgers.

The youngster is already a regular at international level for Scotland and has all the tools to reach the top of the game.

He is an attack-minded defender that loves to bomb forward and that would fit in well to Spurs’ style.

Tierney looks ready to test himself in the Premier League against the very best and it would be a very good pick up if Mauricio Pochettino’s side landed the rising star.

Likely to happen?

Pochettino has shown his willingness to invest in youth during the past couple of seasons and picking up the talented Tierney would fit into the club’s policy.

He would be a like-for-like replacement with Rose and the deal would make perfect sense for the Premier League side, especially after their extensive scouting mission of the Champions League defender.

However, the major stumbling block will be Celtic’s resilience to lose one of their key players, who has been tipped to become a future captain since graduating from the academy.
