Neil Redfearn believes that Leeds United should recall Ronaldo Vieira to the starting XI as he can prevent them from becoming a “nice team”.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been on the fringes of the Whites squad so far this season by making just six appearances and is yet to make a serious impact under Thomas Christiansen.

He is a product of the academy and was an important first-team player last season under Garry Monk.

The England Under-20 international is recognised for being a combative central midfielder and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Elland Road.

Vieira has found himself behind Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips in the pecking order so far this season, but three consecutive defeats in the league have seen fans urge Christiansen to make changes to his side.

Redfearn has claimed that Vieira should be promoted to the starting XI and expects he would bring so much-needed aggression to the side.

“I’d definitely bring back Vieira in midfield. Leeds need a bit of spark and aggression They do not want to be labelled a ‘nice’ team,” Redfearn told Radio Yorkshire.

OPINION

Leeds certainly need something different to help them rediscover their top form and patient midfielder Vieira deserves his chance in the league. The tough tackling youngster will bring some energy to the side and is also very capable in possession. He is still just a 19-year-old and shouldn’t have too much pressure on his shoulders to dramatically change Leeds’ fortunes. However, the Whites saw last season that Vieira can make an impact in the Championship and his omission this season has surprised many people. Leeds have been bullied at times this season so having Vieira competing in the middle of the park should help toughen them up and get rid of any ‘nice’ tag that is being branded about.
