Andy Lonergan has revealed that there was a spat between Leeds United players at half-time during the defeat to Sheffield United.

The Whites suffered a 2-1 home loss on Friday night in the Championship and their poor form of late continued.

Thomas Christiansen side are fifth in the league table, but their home defeat to Sheffield United was their fourth loss in the last five league matches.

The Blades dominated the opening 45 minutes at Elland Road with Billy Sharp scoring early, but Kalvin Phillips’ volley meant the teams went in drawing at half-time.

Leeds goalkeeper Lonergan has explained that there were some stern words said between the players during the interval and several were picked out for their poor performances.

The Yorkshire club did show might fight in the second period, but youngster David Brooks scored a late winner for Sheffield United.

“At half-time a few people said a few things that lads needed to hear. It weren’t good enough and we told them,” Lonergan told LUTV.

OPINION

A bust-up at half-time between the Leeds players is a good thing and some players performing well below their usual standards needed to hear it. The Whites want to be in the race for automatic promotion this season and they will need big characters in their dressing room if that is to be achieved. Christiansen’s side are currently going through a difficult spell, but remain in the play-off positions which is an encouraging sign. Leeds must put in a big performance on Tuesday night in the crunch fixture at home to Elland Road and get back on track immediately.
