Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has revealed that he has not spoken with defender Pontus Jansson since he was dropped against the weekend.

The 26-year-old was axed from the starting XI on Saturday as the Whites beat Bristol City 3-0 in an impressive away win.

He was a shock omission from the fixture and was an unused substitute as Liam Cooper and Matthew Pennington impressed as the centre-back partnership.

Christiansen was asked whether he has spoken to Jansson since axing him against Bristol City and stated that the pair haven’t been in contact.

“No. I don’t have to tell them when they play and when they don’t. If the players want to speak my door is always open,” Christiansen said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Fan favourite Jansson has been an important player so far this season, but may need to improve on his recent form if he is to demand a starting XI role.

He will hope to be involved on Tuesday night as Leeds travel to Premier League opposition Leicester in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

OPINION

Jansson will have been bitterly disappointed to miss out against Bristol City, but he even admitted on social media that his form has not been good enough lately. He should get a chance to redeem himself on Tuesday night for the trip to Leicester and competition in the squad can only be a positive thing. Jansson can be the defender in the Championship when he is on form and will manage to overcome this blip. The Sweden international may find facing top opposite in Leicester brings the best out of him and will hope to be back involved in the league XI immediately.
