Leeds United manager has confirmed that first teamer Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is unavailable for the upcoming game against Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old defender has been ruled out of the home league match against Sheffield United on Friday night.

He started on Tuesday during the 3-1 loss to Leicester in the Carabao Cup, but was forced off injured at half-time.

Christiansen has revealed that the left-back is out of contention for Friday as he is suffering with an ankle injury, but expects he could return as early as next week.

“His (Borthwick-Jackson) problem is the ankle and he will be out,” Christiansen said in his pre-match press conference for Sheffield United, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“It’s not serious, he will be back soon, perhaps even next week.”

Borthwick-Jackson has made just one appearance in the league so far this season, but showed encouraging signs in mid-week against Leicester.

The youngster is currently on loan at Elland Road from Manchester United and is trying to force his way into Christiansen’s best XI.

He did play in all four of the Carabao Cup matches and the attack-minded full-back is still trying to establish himself since his move.

OPINION

Borthwick-Jackson will be frustrated that he has picked up an ankle knock at the worst possible time as he could have been in line for a rare league start against Sheffield United. The left-back position is certainly up for grabs as Gaetano Berardi is suspended on Friday night and the loanee would have been in contention. He started well against Leicester before being forced off with injury and has good pace out on the flank. However, Vurnon Anita is more than likely to get the nod against Sheffield United and was a mainstay in the defence earlier in the season.
