Graeme Murty has been installed the strong-odds favourite to become the next manager of Rangers, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet priced the 42-year-old, who coaches the Rangers youth team, as the 5/2 favourite on Thursday afternoon to succeed Pedro Caixinha in the Ibrox dugout.

Murty, who had a caretaker spell in charge of the Light Blues last season following the exit of Mark Warburton, is ahead in the betting of Alex McLeish (6/1), Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes (7/1) and trio Kenny Miller, David Moyes and Billy Davies (all 8/1).

The odds on Murty were slashed within the space of an hour on Thursday from 8/1 to 5/2.

This came after it was widely reported that the Rangers board of directors have called an emergency meeting to discuss the future of manager Caixinha.

The Portuguese boss watched from the stands at Ibrox on Wednesday night as his side conceded in stoppage time to draw 1-1 with strugglers Kilmarnock.

Chairman Dave King, who was in attendance at Ibrox, will reportedly be joined at the unscheduled meeting by directors Stewart Robertson, Andrew Dickson and Graeme Park.

Pressure has mounted on Caixinha after last Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat by Motherwell and the draw against Kilmarnock means that Rangers have slipped to fourth in the Premiership table ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Hearts.

Caixinha, 46, took over from Mark Warburton in March on a three-year-deal but has won just 14 of his 26 games in charge.
