Leeds best possible XI against Derby

|

Goalkeeper and defence

Andy Lonergan (Goalkeeper) – The experienced shot-stopper has been one of Leeds’ best players in recent matches and is deservedly set for an extended run in the team.

Luke Ayling (Right-back) – Mr Consistent has had a few off days of late, but he has plenty of credit in the bank and normal service should soon be resumed.

Mathew Pennington (Centre-back) – The 23-year-old was as nervous as a six-week-old kitten against United on Friday and must raise his game considerably to stay in the side.

Pontus Jansson (Centre-back) – Leeds’ best defender – whatever his Instagram page says – must be recalled, and that should be the case whatever the state of Liam Cooper’s leg. The Swede has cut back on the yellow cards, but has also lost his mojo. When it returns, expect Leeds to start accumulating points again.

Vurnon Anita (Left-back) – It is no coincidence that Leeds’ two worst defence performances of the season – against Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday – came when Anita was out of the team. The former Newcastle man is a class above the wholehearted but limited Gaetano Berardi and should keep his place when the Swiss has completed his suspension.
