Thomas Christiansen has slammed Leeds United for their “soft” display in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Dane did not mince his words as he delivered his post-match verdict on his players, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay.

Christiansen watched as Leeds slipped to their second consecutive comprehensive defeat, following Tuesday’s 3-1 loss at Cardiff City.

The manager made four changes from the side that came unstuck in south Wales, but it made little difference as United once again paid for sloppy mistakes.

Gary Hooper scored twice and Kieran Lee added a late third to end Wednesday’s poor run and condemn Leeds to fifth spot heading into the international break.

OPINION

Leeds raised expectations among their fanbase by flying out of the starting blocks despite their massive summer squad upheaval and relatively low budget. But, those expectations will have been tempered by a defeat that is more of a disappointment than those against Millwall and Cardiff. The sense is that Leeds have not learned their lessons, which gives Christiansen much to ponder during the international break. Defeats in the Championship are inevitable, even for promotion challengers. An immense start has been followed by a definite dip. It is the manager’s job to analyse what has gone wrong and to get the team back on track.
