Best possible Leeds XI to face Reading

|

Goalkeeper and defence

Felix Wiedwald (Goalkeeper) – The German’s place is under threat after his horror show against Sheffield Wednesday, but Christiansen should hold off from summoning Andy Lonergan. Wiedwald should be given the chance to show he has learned from his mistakes.

Luke Ayling (Right-back) – Mr Consistent has had a few off days of late, but he has plenty of credit in the bank and normal service should soon be resumed.

Pontus Jansson (Centre-back) – Pulled out of the Sweden squad for their World Cup qualifiers, but it would rank as a surprise if he was not fit to return from his shoulder injury immediately after the international break.

Liam Cooper (Centre-back) – On the verge of his first Scotland cap, the United skipper was in the form of his life until his recklessness was rewarded with a red card against Cardiff last week. Has done enough to warrant selection ahead of Matthew Pennington and return to the starting XI.

Vurnon Anita (Left-back) – It is no coincidence that Leeds’ two worst defence performances of the season – against Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday – came when Anita was out of the team. The former Newcastle man is a class above the wholehearted but limited Gaetano Berardi and should be recalled.
