Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to react to a report that ex-skipper Sol Bamba has proved the club were wrong to discard him 12 months ago.

Wales Online claim that the scepticism of Leeds supporters when Bamba, 32, was snapped up by Cardiff City on a free transfer “has been proved foolhardy by Bamba’s brilliance”.

It is said that the defender ran Aron Gunnarsson close for Cardiff’s player of the season award last term and has become a genuine leader in Neil Warnock’s promotion-chasing team.

Leeds had terminated Bamba’s contract a day after the summer 2016 transfer window shut, with former manager Garry Monk having demoted him to fourth in the centre-back pecking order behind Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley and Liam Cooper.

Wales Online claim Monk has been proved wrong by the performances of Bamba, who made 56 appearances during his 18 months at the club.

He has started all nine of Cardiff’s league matches this season and been a key member of the team that is third in the Championship and behind leaders Leeds only on goal difference.

Bamba is set to start for Warnock’s side at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night against Thomas Christiansen’s visitors.

Leeds supporters took to social media to deliver their verdicts on Bamba’s reported renaissance, with many claiming he will be found out and is likely to make mistakes.
