Neil Warnock has heaped praise on Leeds United for their start to the season as his Cardiff side prepare to face them on Tuesday night.

The Whites are currently top of the Championship table and are ahead of both Wolves and Cardiff on goal difference.

Two of the outstanding teams in the division clash in a huge showdown in midweek and it will be a big opportunity for either side to lay down a promotion gauntlet.

Cardiff manager Warnock, who previously had a spell at Elland Road in charge, believes that his former side Leeds have made a great start to the new season.

The 68-year-old claims that they have made a more impressive start to the season than second-placed Wolves due to the financial difference.

“They’ll bring a full contingent and they’ve done brilliantly, probably better than Wolves had because they’ve not spent quite the same money,” Warnock said, as quoted by Wales Online. “Leeds have done well and it’s great to see because it’s a fabulous club.

“I really enjoyed myself there but it was difficult circumstances, it was the wrong place at the wrong time – and the wrong chairman!”

OPINION

Leeds and Cardiff have both been surprise teams this season in the Championship with their blistering starts, while Wolves were expected to be challenging at the top of the table. Thomas Christiansen’s side managed to beat Ipswich 3-2 in a thrilling home match in their last outing, but the away trip to Cardiff will be a great test of their promotion credentials. The Yorkshire giants could seriously strengthen their position at the top with positive results in their next two games against Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday, but lose both and their early season momentum could come to a halt.
