Mateusz Klich was handed his first Championship start in Leeds United’s 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Tuesday night – and fans took to Twitter to pan the midfielder.
The summer signing from FC Twente has had to bide his time since his arrival due to the success of the central midfield alliance of Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips.
But manager Thomas Christiansen made five changes to the team that defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 last weekend, with Klich given his full league debut alongside Phillips.
Leeds were containing Neil Warnock’s fired-up home side well until a Klich slip after 28 minutes allowed Cardiff to feed Kenneth Zohore for the first of his two goals on the night.
Junior Hoilett added a superbly taken second shortly before an action-packed first half ended with the sending-off of United skipper Liam Cooper.
It was damage limitation for 10-man Leeds after the break, although Kemar Roofe’s deflected shot did provide some respectability to the scoreline.
The Elland Road faithful were disappointed with the performance of Poland international Klich, who played for 67 minutes before making way for Ronaldo Vieira.

Klich looks like a slower and less technical version of Phillips, if thats possible. Not impressed with him or Grot. #lufc

Hmm – it was looking tight at 0-0 but the collapse was horrendous. Klich mistake awful and Cooper completely lost it. No way back #lufc
