Leeds United fans took to Twitter to express their dismay after Pontus Jansson did not make the matchday squad for their Championship home match against Ipswich.

Manager Thomas Christiansen had claimed at his weekly media briefing on Friday that Jansson had recovered from the injury that forced him to limp out of the team’s 1-0 defeat to Millwall last Saturday in the closing stages.

But the Leeds talisman was omitted from the 18-man squad for the clash at Elland Road against Mick McCarthy’s visitors.

Fit-again Liam Cooper was recalled to the starting XI as Thomas Christiansen made one change from the side that lost at the New Den, with the skipper partnering 21-year-old Conor Shaughnessy in defence.

Shaughnessy got the nod over Matthew Pennington, who was named on the substitute’s bench after six weeks on the sidelines.

Leeds fans were disappointed at the absence of Jansson, who is widely regarded as one of the outstanding defenders in the English second tier.
