Thomas Christiansen has made nine changes to his Leeds side to face League Two side Newport County in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Pablo Hernandez and Caleb Ekuban both miss out with hip and foot injuries respectively, while Rob Green makes his first start of the 2017-18 season in all competitions. Eoghan Stokes, 21, makes his first ever Leeds appearance.

Green, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Conor Shaughnessy, Ronaldo Vieira, Mateusz Klich, Madger Gomes, Stokes and Stuart Dallas all come in to start ahead of the clash.

Out go Felix Wiedwald, Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson, Eunan O’Kane, Kalvin Phillips, Hernandez, Ekuban and Ezgjan Alioski, who are all rested after starting against the Black Cats last weekend.

Leeds revealed the team news on their official Twitter account prior to Christiansen’s sixth competitive match in charge.

The Yorkshire giants play host to Newport at Elland Road after beating Port Vale in the first round by four goals to one, which saw new signing Samu Saiz mark his debut with an impeccable hat-trick.

Leeds come into the game in good form after beating Sunderland and former manager Simon Grayson by two goals to nil on Saturday evening, but Christiansen has opted to reshuffle his squad in order to give his senior stars a rest.

Christiansen will be desperate to see his side avoid a slip up against Newport, as he remains unbeaten as manager of the former Champions League side.

This is the first time the two sides will ever meet in the history of both clubs, with Leeds expected to waltz past their lower-league opposition into the third round of the cup.
