OPINION

London rivals Crystal Palace have reportedly launched an eight-figure bid for fringe Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer.

The Daily Mail have claimed on their live transfer blog (Tuesday, 10.14am) that the south east London side have made an offer worth £15million for the Spurs 24-year-old.

The Austrian defender has four years remaining on his contract in north London, but has not yet appeared for Mauricio Pochettino’s side after two Premier League matches this season.

Here, This Is Futbol weighs up whether allowing Wimmer to move to Premier League rivals Palace would be good for Tottenham and if a deal is likely to happen:

Good move for Tottenham?

Some Premier League sides are against selling to each other if they are directly coming against each other in the league, but it is fair to say that Palace are a level below Tottenham with the Eagles looking to avoid relegation, while Spurs are hoping for another title challenge.

Therefore, off the field it looks a good move for Spurs and on the pitch it also does with it clear that Wimmer is no longer in Pochettino’s plans with the imminent signing of Davinson Sanchez as well as increasing links to Juan Foyth to come.

Additionally, £15million would present great business for Tottenham for a player they signed for just £15million two years a go and therefore this reported deal has no drawbacks at all.

Likely to happen?

Wimmer is clearly heading for the Wembley exit doors this summer and it is now just a question of who to.

Crystal Palace have shown in recent windows that they are looking to spend big money with the likes of Christian Benteke and Yohan Cabaye joining in previous windows.

Their only permanent signing to date this summer is a centre-back in Jairo Riedweald from Ajax, but after shipping four goals in their first two Premier League matches they may now be looking for further defensive reinforcements to ensure they do move clear of the drop zone.

The only stumbling block in a potential Wimmer deal to Crystal Palace is which other clubs are interested after West Brom also reportedly lodged a bid last week.
