Leeds United were given a major boost on Sunday in their bid to sign Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson this summer.

The Daily Mail claimed on their live transfer blog on Wednesday (16:49) that the Championship big hitters are interested in signing the left-back during the current transfer window.

It is said that Leeds would take Borthwick-Jackson, 20, on either a loan or a permanent deal after he slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford following his breakthrough 2015-16 campaign.

The defender spent last season on loan in the Championship with Wolves but made only seven appearances and spent the second half of the campaign playing for United’s under-23s.

Leeds’ hopes of landing the youngster were handed a major boost on Sunday when Borthwick-Jackson was omitted from the 27-man United squad named by Jose Mourinho for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The squad announced on the official United website featured a number of players who can play in his left-back position.

This strongly suggests that the Premier League giants will listen to permanent or loan offers for Borthwick-Jackson, who has three years remaining on his contract.

Leeds are in the market for a left-sided defender after Charlie Taylor completed a transfer to Burnley on Thursday for a fee to be settled by a tribunal.
