Leeds United are interested in signing Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report on the live transfer blog on their official website on Wednesday (16:49) that the Championship side are weighing up a move for the 20-year-old full-back.

The report claims that the Yorkshire club believes that the youngster is the perfect candidate to replace the outgoing Charlie Taylor, who signed for Premier League side Burnley on Thursday for a fee to be settled by a tribunal.

The Daily Mail reports that Leeds are keen to sign the full-back on a permanent deal and it is said that Borthwick-Jackson might be open to a move away from Old Trafford to further develop his footballing career.

United boss Jose Mourinho sent the youngster out on loan to Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers last season but the defender spent most of the campaign watching on from the sidelines.

The full-back only managed to make seven appearances in all competitions for Wolves last season.

Mourinho was reportedly unhappy with the loan spell as he would have preferred the defender to get more minutes under his belt.

Borthwick-Jackson made his breakthrough into the United first-team during the 2015-16 season under former boss Louis van Gaal.

The youngster featured in 10 Premier League matches and he provided his only assist of the season in the 3-0 league victory against Stoke City at Old Trafford.

The defender’s current contract with United expires in 2020.
