Versatile defender Antonio Rudiger has completed a move to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, it has been announced by the club.

The 24-year-old has joined the Premier League champions from Italian side Roma and he has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The West London club confirmed the news on their official website and their official Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

The German defender becomes the second new arrival to the senior team at Stamford Bridge this summer after former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero signed on a free transfer.

Rudiger enjoyed an impressive campaign in Italy last season, making a total of 36 appearances in all competitions and helping Roma to secure a top two finish for the third time in four seasons.

The defensive enforcer contributed with one goal and four assists last season.

The German will be able to provide Chelsea boss Antonio Conte with more defensive options as he is comfortable playing as a centre-back but also capable of producing the goods as a full-back.

Rudiger was a key member of the Germany national team which lifted the Confederations Cup in Russia this summer, playing the full 90 minutes in four out of the five matches in the tournament.

Chelsea will be hopeful that the defender can help them retain the Premier League title next season.
