Mexican club Pumas have agreed to sell striker Eduardo Herrera to Rangers in a “cut-price deal” if they agree to a 20 per cent sell-on clause, according to a Scottish Sun report.

The newspaper claims Gers manager Pedro Caixinha has “stepped up” his interest in the 28-year-old striker.

It is said Pumas will allow the Mexico international to leave in the summer transfer window, with Rangers interested, but they want a 20 per cent sell-on fee.

This comes after Fox Sport Mexico correspondent Francisco Montes claimed on Twitter that the Glasgow giants were eyeing a swoop for Herrera.

Herrera has been on loan at Veracruz since January, and he has scored three goals in 13 league games for the club.

However, prior to leaving Pumas on loan earlier this year, he had endured a difficult spell in front of goal, finding the net just once in 16 appearances.

The Scottish Sun report states Caixinha is a “huge fan” of the striker who he worked with when he managed Mexican outfit Santos Laguna three years ago.

Herrera is a nine-time Mexico international, and has scored three goals for the side, but he has not featured since the 2-0 friendly win over Senegal in February 2016.
