Peter Moore marked his first day as Chief Executive of Liverpool FC by commenting that the Reds won’t necessarily have to spend like Manchester City to improve their squad, The Times has reported.

Moore has said that “key ingredients” are already in place for Liverpool to achieve long-term success.

His comments were made following City’s recent £75m spending spree after signing Monaco’s Bernado Silva and, according to the BBC, looking set to complete a deal for Benefica goalkeeper Ederson.

Manchester City’s spending could crash through the £100m mark if they complete another reported deal – £35m for Benjamin Mendy.

“It’s not, ‘They’ve spent £100 million, so we will spend £100 million’. It’s about we have strengthened our squad in these positions and it has cost us this.

“I may be naive but I’m not looking at my competitor.”

Moore has said that it is still possible that Liverpool will spend just as much as Guardiola’s side, yet he stated “it won’t be because they spend £100m”.

The report links Liverpool to two targets – Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita – who would probably cost the Reds over £100m.

Moore will work closely with the Liverpool boss, Klopp, as well as the sporting director Michael Edwards and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.

President of FSG, Mike Gordon said that Moore was the “ideal person” for the job, with an impressive employment history which has seen him work for Reebok, EA and Microsoft.
