Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is eyeing up a sensational double swoop for Eduardo Herrera and Jose Javier Abella, according to reliable journalist Francisco Montes.

Montes is a Fox Sport Mexico correspondent and the message on his Twitter account was cited in the broadcaster’s website report linking the Glasgow giants to the Mexican duo.

It is said Caixinha’s interest in both players is “real”, but there is “less chance” of him signing Herrera.

Abella is a 23-year-old right-back at Caixinha’s former club, Santos Lagunas, who ply their trade in the top-flight of Mexican football.

He has been used sparingly in Santos’ back line since the turn of the year, playing just 13 league and cup games overall this term.

However he has made more than 130 appearances in all competitions for the club since making the jump into their senior set-up in 2013.

The right-back has also made two appearances for Mexico, both coming in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Herrera is a 28-year-old striker at Pumas, but he has been on loan at Veracruz since January of this year.

He has endured a difficult campaign in front of goal, and has only scored six goals in 28 league and cup games.

The 28-year-old is a nine-time Mexico international, and has scored three goals for the side, however he has not featured since the 2-0 friendly win over Senegal in February 2016.

A Scottish Sun report claims Herrera would cost Rangers a “seven figure transfer fee” in order to bring him to Glasgow.

Caixinha is looking to strengthen all areas of his squad this summer ahead of next season’s campaign.
