Leeds United are “confident” of securing a fee of over £5million for Charlie Taylor this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claim the Championship club have held extensive talks with Premier League outfit West Brom about a Taylor deal but an agreement has yet to be secured.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds believe they would earn more than £5million if a decision on the left-back, 23, was to go before a tribunal.

Taylor is a free agent from 1 July, but because he’s under 24 and a product of the Elland Road academy, Leeds are entitled to compensation from any club that signs him, with the fee to be decided by a tribunal if an an agreement cannot be reached.

It is said that Leeds offered a two-year contract to Taylor last month but he is expected to reject it with a view to sign for a top-flight club.

The defender is yet to secure a move with eight days remaining on his contract but Premier League rules dictate that he will remain on Leeds’ payroll until a transfer is agreed.

Taylor is in line to return to pre-season training with the Championship club while he waits for his future to be decided.

Reports elsewhere have claimed that West Brom have pulled the plug on their pursuit of the defender but the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Burnley are also keeping close tabs on the Leeds 2015-16 player of the year.

Giants Liverpool have also been previously credited with an interest in Taylor, as have Crystal Palace.

It emerged on Wednesday that Leeds are working on a deal to sign Dutch left-back Ard van Peppen a contract as they step up plans to replace Taylor.
