Confirmed: Reece Oxford joins Bundesliga side on loan

It has been confirmed that West Ham defender Reece Oxford has joined Bundelsiga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

The German club announced on Wednesday that the Hammers’ centre-back would be joining the club on a season-long loan this summer.

Borussia announced the 18-year-old’s arrival on the club’s official Twitter account.

In the Twitter confirmation, the Bundesliga giants welcomed the teenager and stated that he would be with the club until June 2018.

The Hammers starlet will be hoping to improve and develop his skills after manager Slaven Bilic decided the 18-year-old wasn’t ready for regular first-team football at West Ham.

The England Under-20 has made just 16 senior appearances for West Ham, after he displayed an impressive first-team debut against Arsenal during the opening game of the season in 2015.

Oxford was named man-of-the-match following his performance during the 0-2 win at the Emirates, and led to the defender being tipped as a future England star.

The 18-year-old showed his versatility during his senior debut after boss Salven Bilic chose to use the Englishman in a defensive midfield role, where Oxford took on Arsenal showman Mesut Ozil.

Since 2015, Oxford has struggled to make his mark at West Ham, and will now join the German side to increase his experience.

The teenager has just completed a recent loan-spell with Championship club Reading, where he made just five appearances and was played in the centre-back position.

Oxford returned back to West Ham at the end of May, just days after Reading were beaten in the play-off finals against Huddersfield and the loanee failed to make an appearance on the team sheet.
