The departure of head scout Graham Carr signals the end of an era for Newcastle United.

The club announced on Wednesday evening that Carr had left the club by mutual consent, ending a seven year stint as the Magpies’ man to identify potential talent for the first team.

It is well known just how much power he had in the boardroom at St James’ Park, and his knowledge meant owner Mike Ashley placed his trust firmly in the now-72-year-old’s hands.

However, not every signing during his time on Tyneside was a success, and there will be questions about whether he had finally lost his touch for unearthing diamonds.

Despite this, there can be no question that Carr brought in some of the most exciting talent the club had ever seen, which helped them reach the heady heights of fifth just two seasons after securing promotion from the Championship.
