Newcastle United’s chief scout Graham Carr has left the club after seven years.

The newly promoted side have announced that the scout has left St. James’ Park by mutual consent.

The Toon confirmed the former Tottenham scout’s resignation on the club’s official Twitter account, and later wished him the best.

The 72-year-old joined the north-east side back at the end of the 2009/10 season when the club gained promotion to top-flight football under the leadership of ex-boss Chris Hughton.

During his seven years with the club the player-turned-scout sought out an array of signings from the UK and across Europe, and his scouting skills saw Yohan Cabaye, Matthieu Debuchy, Papiss Cisse, and Cheick Tiote join Newcastle throughout that time.

Managing director, Lee Charnley, confirmed the Englishman’s resignation in an official statement and commented on the success he brought to the club.

Charnley was quoted on the club’s official website saying: “It has been my pleasure to work with Graham over the last seven years as both a colleague and a friend. He can count some of Newcastle’s most successful players in recent years as his ‘finds’.

“Everyone connected with Newcastle United wishes Graham the very best for the future.”

Boss Rafa Benitez will look to strengthen his squad ahead of the club’s step up into the Premier League, but will have to do so without the chief scout.

The club will look to review the scouting operation after Carr’s exit and are expected to make an announcement on any changes.
