Leeds United have turned their attention to Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson in their search for a replacement for Garry Monk, according to the Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Championship big hitters have been impressed by the track record of Parkinson, 49.

The Mail report that Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has been struck by how he has guided Bolton to instant promotion back into the Championship while working under severe financial constraints.

It is said that Parkinson is now a genuine contender for the post that has been vacant since Monk tendered his shock resignation two weeks ago.

Leeds have been linked with the likes of Alan Pardew, the current bookmakers’ favourite, Claudio Ranieri and Aitor Karanka over the last fortnight.

Radrizzani revealed on social media on Tuesday evening that the Yorkshire giants would begin interviews with candidates this week as they take their time to source the right replacement for Monk, who transformed the fortunes of the team as he guided them to a seventh place finish.

Parkinson is an experienced lower league manager who has an impressive track record, that includes two promotions.

He won the League Two play-offs with Bradford City in 2013 and took them to the League Cup final and quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Parkinson took over at Bolton in 2016 following their relegation to League One and guided them back into the Championship after finishing runners up to Sheffield United on 86 points.

He has been working under great financial constraints at the northern club, with a transfer embargo meaning he has had to deal solely in loans and free transfers.
