New Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen was unveiled to the media on Monday – and many of the club’s fans on Twitter were struck by the performance of Victor Orta.
The recently appointed director of football took many of the questions from the attending press and broadcast journalists as he joined Christiansen and new managing director Angus Kinnear at Elland Road.
Orta confirmed a shake-up of the backroom staff – with the existing team of assistant head coach Pep Clotet, first-team coach James Beattie and goalkeeping coach Daryl Flahavan all leaving the club – and explained that his job is to find new players for the manager that are within the club’s budget.
The Spaniard was speaking in his second language but many Leeds fans on social media were critical of how he came across, with some condemning him as “arrogant” and “unlikeable”.
A minority argued that Orta had done nothing wrong as supporters took to Twitter en masse to deliver verdicts on his first address to the media since being appointed as the club’s new recruitment chief at the end last month.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Don’t mind the gaffa, seems very knowledgeable and ambitious. Orta on the other hand sounds like a right wrong’un. Very arrogant. #lufc

I know it was hard to understand him but I’m not sure what Orta has said wrong in that press conference? #lufc

It should have been Radrizzani in that press conference if he’s the one “rebuilding”. Orta did nothing to lift the spirits. #lufc

Orta was appointed within days of leaving recently relegated Middlesbrough, where he was in charge of the European market.
His appointment by Leeds was not greeted with acclaim by many of the club’s fans as the Boro players signed last summer failed to fire in the 2016-17 Premier League.
