New Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has reportedly been handed a two-year contract – and fans have taken to Twitter to broadly welcome the length of the deal.
The Championship side confirmed on their official website on Thursday that the Denmark born former Spain international has taken over as the club’s boss shortly after leaving Cyprus outfit APOEL Nicosia.
Leeds did not divulge the terms or length of the deal but BBC Leeds journalist Adam Pope revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday that Christiansen, 44, has been given a two-year deal with the option for a third.

The Leeds faithful on social media are pleased that Christiansen has been backed with a longer deal than his predecessor Garry Monk, who was appointed on a 12-month rolling contract last summer.
Monk’s deal included the option of a 12-month extension but he handed in his resignation the day before United owner Andrea Radrizzani planned to activate it.
Leeds fans are pleased that the new manager has the security of a longer deal although some pointed out that the option of a third year might mean little in reality.

He’ll be on two years of “gardening leave” by the end of September.

Better than the rolling contract we gave Garry

Seems a reasonable contract given the circumstances

I just sincerely hope that he is genuinely financially backed & supported by @andrearadri & @LUFC … it’s paramount #lufc #mot #Leeds

Christiansen moves to Elland Road after guiding APOEL to the first division title in Cyprus as well as steering them to the last 16 stages of the Europa League during his sole season in charge.
Monk was appointed by Middlesbrough 15 days after quitting Leeds and was unveiled to the media on Monday of this week.
