Thomas Christiansen has taken to Twitter to outline his delight at being appointed the new Leeds United manager – and fans have welcomed him with open arms.
The 44-year-old former Spain international took to social media on Thursday night to post his first message to the Elland Road faithful as he expressed that it was an “honour” to be the manager of “such an historical club” on his personal Twitter account.
I am delighted to become the Head Coach @LUFC. It is an honour to join such an historical club & I look forward to getting to work #MOT

Christiansen’s Twitter following increased by the minute as Leeds’ vast online fanbase began following the new manager even though many would not have heard of him 24 hours earlier.
The successor to Garry Monk, who quit when he tendered his resignation 22 days ago, was send a vast number of messages by the Elland Road faithful on Twitter.
Some express their total support and others urged him to make a number of new signings, with many expressing their wish for him to keep Monk’s popular former number two Pep Clotet on the coaching staff.

Christiansen has arrived at Leeds just weeks after leaving Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia, with his exit date coincidentally the same as that of Monk.
The two-time former international led APOEL to the first division title in his only season at the helm as well as taking them to the last-16 of the Europa League, a noteworthy achievement given the club’s European pedigree.
Prior to steering the Cypriot outfit to their fifth consecutive title, Denmark-born Christiansen was in charge at their rivals AEK Larnaca, who he led to consecutive runners-up finishes in the league.
He also has an impressive playing pedigree that included a five-year spell at Barcelona in the 1990s, three years of which were spent in the first team.
