Charlie Taylor has failed to respond to a new contract offer from Leeds, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The 23-year-old’s current deal at Elland Road is due to expire at the end of this month and he is now expected to leave the Championships side.

Reporter Hay stated on his personal Twitter account that all of this was expected and despite the managerial appointment of Thomas Christiansen, Taylor will still be heading for the exit door this summer.

This was Hay’s response to a Leeds supporter who was asking what Christiansen thinks of Taylor and whether there are any plans for him.

Former Leeds boss Garry Monk, who left the club in May, revealed at the end of the Championship season that Taylor had refused to play against Wigan.

The Whites went on to draw that encounter while Monk was critical of Taylor and the way he had been advised by his representatives.

Over the course of the season, Taylor played 32 matches in all competitions for his side, but he only featured on seven occasions from March onwards.

With Taylor’s departure edging closer, it is likely that the club’s new manager could be dipping into the transfer market this summer to find his replacement.

When Taylor was injured during the Christmas and New Year period, Gaetano Berardi deputised in that position and won plaudits for his performances.
