Leeds duo arrive at Boro

Coaching duo James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan have been appointed on Garry Monk’s new-look backroom staff at Middlesbrough, it has been confirmed.

The Championship club have announced on their official website that Monk has appointed five men on his backroom team, all of whom he has worked with at previous clubs Leeds and Swansea.

The 2016-17 Elland Road manager will be joined on his coaching staff by first-team coaches Beattie and David Adams, goalkeeping coach Flahavan, fitness coach Sean Rush, who has also moved from Elland Road, and performance analyst Ryan Needs.

Beattie and Flahavan, whose Leeds contracts run until the end of the month, will arrive at the Riverside Stadium when Boro return to pre-season training.

The club’s coaching staff will oppose the Yorkshire giants twice in the upcoming season, on 18 November and 3 March, after the Championship fixture list was announced on Wednesday.

Monk’s recruitment of the pair from Leeds comes after Pep Clotet revealed on Twitter on Tuesday night that he has severed his links with his sidekick after three years of working together.

Spaniard Clotet, 40, who was the number two to Monk at Premier League club Swansea as well as Leeds, hinted that he intend to return to top-level management as he explained that “it’s now time for me to move on and look for a new stage in my career”.

Clotet will leave Leeds at a time of radical change at the club among the senior management, coaching and administrative staff.

New head coach Thomas Christiansen has named Julio Banuelos as his number two after they worked together at APOEL and AEK Larnaca, Ivan Torres is the new fitness coach and Abad will coach the keepers.
