New Leeds United signing Mateusz Klich has revealed to the Yorkshire Evening Post he was aware of the exploits of Chris Wood before he joined the club at the end of last week.

Klich, 27, put pen to paper on Friday to become the Championship club’s first signing under new manager Thomas Christiansen as well as the first new arrival of the summer.

Hadi Sacko and Pontus Jansson have penned permanent deals with Leeds after successful loans in 2016-17 under former boss Garry Monk but fans will be eager to get a glimpse of the man who has joined from FC Twente for a fee in the region of £1.5million.

Poland international Klich arrives on the back of a fine season in the Dutch top tier, scoring six goals and supplying four assists from a central midfield position, and he will strengthen an area of the pitch that was notably lacking in flair and goalscoring potential last season.

The midfielder will join his new team-mates on Monday as the Leeds squad returns to pre-season training and the Yorkshire Evening Post report that, in particular, Klich has heard plenty about the club’s 2016-17 player of the year Wood.

“I am really looking forward to playing with a striker who can score 30 goals,” admitted Klich to the newspaper. “That means you can get assists as well. I can’t wait to play for the team.”

Wood, who is currently captaining New Zealand at the Confederations Cup in Russia, topped the Championship scoring charts with 27 goals last season and netted 30 times in all competitions.

He has been linked with interest from a number of Premier League clubs but has said he is excited by the arrival of Christiansen.
